The Institute is open to 30 participants from Member States.

The participants should be graduate students or young professionals with (i) a degree in science or engineering, other than nuclear (primary audience) or (ii) a degree in the nuclear sciences, but with no or limited practical experience in the nuclear industry (secondary audience) or (iii) a non-nuclear degree but experience in the nuclear field (tertiary audience). Participants shall demonstrate a keen interest in working in the nuclear energy sector.

The regional group fellowship will be conducted in English and candidates must have sufficient and certified English proficiency to ensure their active participation.

The INI fellowship programme will be organised through three different types of fellowships:

IAEA Financed (Type I),

Funded from National Budgets (Type II) and

Self-Funded (Type III).

TYPE I- IAEA Financed

Within this type, the priority will be given to the qualified candidates from TC Europe Region countries which operate, have operated or are actively planning to operate nuclear power plants, namely: Armenia, Belarus, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Turkey, and Ukraine.

Selected participants from countries eligible to receive financial assistance (Type I) will be provided with a round trip economy class air ticket from their home countries to Prague, Czech Republic, from Prague, Czech Republic, to Lowell, United States of America, and back to their home countries. In addition, the IAEA will cover the fellowship fees and daily expenses.

TYPE II- Funded from National Budgets

Additionally, based on the interest expressed by numerous Member States outside the TC Europe Region to partake in the INI, a limited number of qualified candidates from interested countries outside the TC Europe Region (again, which operate, have operated or are actively planning to operate nuclear power plants) will be considered for participation in the 2018 Session of the Institute, with the understanding that such participants should be funded through other resources than those allocated to RER0035 (e.g., self-funding, funding by nominating country). Target TC-recipient countries with operating/expanding/actively planning nuclear power programme consist of (in addition to those in the TC Europe Region): Argentina, Bangladesh, Belarus, Brazil, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Nigeria, Poland, Ghana, Kenya, Malaysia, Mexico, Morocco, Saudi Arabia and South Africa.

Participation by fellows from non-TC recipient countries will also be considered, providing that they are Funded.

Fellows funded by National Budgets (Type II) or their funding entity are responsible for the fellowship fee of USD 10,800, which includes group fellowship materials, meals, accommodation, transportation and technical tours. They will be also responsible for the air tickets from their home countries to Prague, Czech Republic, from Prague, Czech Republic, to Lowell, United States of America, and back to their home countries.

TYPE III- Self-Funded

Self-Funded candidates (Type III) or their funding entity are responsible for the fellowship fee of USD 10,800, which includes group fellowship materials, meals, accommodation, transportation and technical tours. They will be also responsible for the air tickets from their home countries to Prague, Czech Republic, from Prague, Czech Republic, to Lowell, United States of America, and back to their home countries.
